Homemakers

 Homemakers is a 501c3 non-profit charitable organization that provides  domestic violence victims with everything they need to start a new life  in a new place. We use second-hand furniture and goods purchased at  thrift stores, estate sales, yard sales, social media sites (such as  Facebook Marketplace), and from private donations. We select items that  create a warm, calming environment with continuity of color and design.

​The  result is a coordinated appearance, rather than random items being  forced together. We provide everything a person or family would need to  start a new life, from silverware to dishes, clocks, beds, and more. We  strive to close the gap in needs facing domestic abuse survivors. By  using second-hand and donated items, we can keep our expenses lower,  allowing us to provide help to more women in need.

​Many Domestic  Violence victims often feel unable to leave their abusive partners. A  domestic abuser often controls many aspects of a victim's life, such as  finances. Often, this control limits the ability of the victim to leave  because they would not have the necessary funds to provide for  themselves. If a parent leaves an abusive environment with two children,  the cost of buying furniture and everything from silverware to bedding  and more is nearly $12,000 for a two-bedroom apartment. Homemakers saw  this need and realized that by using second-hand goods, we could fully  furnish the same apartment for around $2500. For $1500, we have the  ability to furnish a 1-bedroom apartment.
